Nokia Lumia 920 Camera- First Look

Nokia Lumia 920 CameraLumia 920, the smartphone from Nokia, has already been hyped up because of the high expectations that have been placed in its camera that is called PureView. But does it justify all the anticipation that one has about it? Some time back we managed to get hands this smartphone. We took to the San Francisco streets armed with it, clicking away as the colorful Frisco World Series pageant went by.

The vibrant and lively parade gave us plenty of opportunities to snap the multihued and eye-catching floats that passed before us. What we found out was that all the photos we took with the Nokia 920 remained in focus even though we often had to shoot from awkward angles and with very little time to focus our gadgets properly.

Like many other cameras that are an integral part of other smartphones one has to tap the screen to bring the subject sharply in focus. But in the case of the 920, the camera will click a picture the moment it gets the proper focus. Therefore, a user will not get stuck in situations where he focuses on a snap and loses the focus before he can strike the shutter button. We noticed one difference in the photos we clicked with this camera. They looked darker and the contrast was less than the same pictures that were snapped with a Galaxy S III as well as an iPhone 4S which were the two other phones with cameras in the office.

For all the 3 smartphones we made use of the default camera apparatus and settings, and clicked photos as we held the phones while jostling with the others in the bustling parade crowd. It was precisely in the same manner that a spectator might have been taking pictures at an event like this. In order to properly depict a few differences in the pictures we combined the pictures that were taken from all the 3 cameras. Pictures were taken straight away taken from the cameras and slotted in this post. No editing of the pictures was done, except for the cropping that was needed to fit the photos alongside each other.

We intend to do a more proscribed test with other cameras in the weeks to come, like the Lumia 920 as well as the iPhone 5.

What we got here was a preliminary look at the pictures from the 3 instruments we had with us. All 3 did a noteworthy job of clicking pictures of the pageant. Though the photos that were snapped by the Galaxy S III were nearer to real life than the other two, the Galaxy also clicked more pictures that were blurred and not in focus.

The production of pictures by the iPhone 4S was better in detail than the other cameras. But here the color in some photos seemed to be boosted. Perhaps it was compensating for the overcast sky, which, while making the pictures look very nice, also made them seem less true than life.

In the next few weeks we will have a look at the results of pictures taken by other smartphone cameras, including the iPhone 5, the Galaxy S III and the Lumia 920, using various lighting formats and scenarios. Tell us your thoughts through comments about the image quality variations of the cameras mentioned above.
