Both the LG G4 and the HTC One M9 are LG’s and HTC’s latest flagship offerings for 2015 and they both offer a different flavor of the Android pie. Which one comes out on top? Is this a question that can have a true answer? We’ll be taking an in-depth look to find out where each device excels below.
Build Quality
Here’s an interesting match up. In the past, the HTC lineup was often compared to the Galaxy lineup - in previous years, the Samsung Galaxy devices offered a cheap-feeling build quality, whilst the HTC M range had the highest quality build we’ve seen on Android for quite some time. The Galaxy range this year has gone for a much more premium quality, and LG is now considered the underdog in this department.
Whilst the LG G4 may not carry the same finesse as the unibody metallic design on the HTC M9, the G4 still looks and feels decent to hold. The LG G4 is more flexible in many ways, thanks to its removable battery, SD card slot and backside button, but the HTC One M9 feels a lot more rigid when it comes to utilitarian purposes.
Would you choose high quality design over utility, or is a less premium design a valuable sacrifice for more features and usability? This really comes down to preference, but what makes each device shine here is quite clear.
Display
Unfortunately, neither the LG G4 or the HTC One M9 have quite the display quality that the Galaxy S6 lineup has. Instead, you’re left with a display, although high definition, that lacks a decent color pallette. Unless you’re really nitpicky about your display quality, you won’t really find much to complain about though. It comes down to whether you prefer a larger display or not. In most cases, the 5.5 inch 1440p LCD panel on the G4 will come out on top, as opposed to the 5 inch 1080p Super-LCD panel on the HTC One M9.
The LG G4 is definitely a better choice here. If you want to unlock your LG G4 just visit here!
Interface
HTC Sense and the LG UX both offer two very varying experiences. When it comes to appearance and nothing else, it feels like the same premium finesse of the M9’s build quality has translated well to its software. This would make sense since HTC has been trying to perfect their high end Android UI for much longer than LG has. The LG has a much more colorful, square design that jumps out at your eyes - it’s perhaps easier to navigate, but it feels like child’s play when compared to HTC Sense.
The truth is though, there’s a lot more behind an Android overlay than it’s appearance, and if you dig deeper you’ll find that the LG UX is in fact a whole lot more feature packed than HTC Sense. Despite having a lot of time to develop decent looking Android software, HTC still hasn’t developed any useful exclusive features in Sense to make it stand out from the crowd. This is a completely different story with LG.
Performance
The LG G4 uses the Snapdragon 808 SoC - this includes a hexa-core processor, one quad core for high end tasks, and one dual core for less demanding functions. The HTC One M9 on the other hand uses the Snapdragon 810, a chipset that LG couldn’t get their hands on soon enough. To unlock your HTC One M9 just click here!
Without a shadow of a doubt, the HTC One M9 performs better with the Snapdragon 810 than the LG G4 does with the 808. The difference in performance is no way as big as the gap between the 808 and the 801, but there’s still a noticeable improvement in performance. If you’re looking for the most powerful device on the market, the HTC One M9 is the better choice, but even then it gets outdone by the Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge.
Summary
The G4 is better suited for those looking to get the very most out of their smartphone - it’s bigger, has a larger display and many features to keep users going for longer. The M9 on the other hand is sleek, ergonomic and gives owners a very high quality experience. It’s a preference thing, but each device has their pros and cons for sure.
