Galaxy S6 May Use a Touch Based Finger Sensor
Ever since Apple started using Touch ID on their iOS phones, other manufacturers have started to mimic this feature. In an attempt to be slightly different, Samsung introduced a swipe-based fingerprint sensor to the Galaxy S5, Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge.
Unfortunately, forcing the user to swipe each time often made using the sensor more effort than it was worth. Learn here how to unlock your Samsung phone!
Recently, rumors suggested that the new Galaxy S6 would drop the swipe-based sensor for a Apple-style touch-based button instead. You can unlock your Galaxy S6 here.
Whilst we still do not have an official confirmation from Samsung about this, a new leaked render does show what looks to be a taller, more functional fingerprint sensor.
Oddly enough, the fingerprint sensor seen on the Galaxy S6 looks almost identical to the one seen on the Meizu MX4 Pro, which as we know, uses a touch-based sensor instead of swipe.
The new switch to a standard touch-based sensor might not just be about making good design decisions. Samsung may be making the move to better accommodate the introduction of Samsung Pay, a mobile payment feature that will use the fingerprint sensor as a form of user authentication.
Samsung Pay has been in the works to rival Apple Pay, which has slowly been taking over US, Europe and UK restaurants and retail stores. Hopefully we’ll find out exactly how the S6 works this weekend just before MWC starts.
