Samsung and Android Take Huge Lead in Q1 Smartphone Sales
It doesn’t come as surprising news that Samsung had a massive 26.6% share of the global smart phone and tablet market in quarter 1 this year, according to research firm Canalys.
In second place is Apple, with a reasonable 19.3% share. A huge drop from 19% makes third place with Lenovo’s 5% market share, and in fourth was Sony, with a 3.1% share.
In January, February and March alone, 308.7 million smart devices were shipped, making Samsung’s sold devices in that period a huge 82.2 million, whilst Apple sold 59.6 million devices.
In comparison to Lenovo in third place with just 15 million smartphones shipped, you can see the huge lead Samsung has had over other manufacturers.
With Samsung’s, Lenovo’s and every other Android manufacturer combined, a massive 59.5% of the market share was divided out between them, making Apple look puny with its 19.3% market share.
Funnily enough, Microsoft managed to land in third with a surprisingly close 18.1% share.
If we remove tablet and other sales from the share, we are left with a huge 75.6% for Android, against Apple’s 20%.
Android certainly has the upper hand here, and perhaps we’ll even see Microsoft take over the sinking ship that is Apple next quarter.
