HTC ONE SV - First Look

By admin | Published January 22nd, 2013

HTC One SV Smartphone ReviewAs a smart phone which is targeted for the masses, the HTC ONE SV really stands in a class of its own. The fact that it is priced so that the average person can have one, it really becomes the phone of choice for everyone, regardless of their pay package.

In fact, the ONE SV is reminiscent of a party, there is always room for one more person to join a party as there is always room for another person to take up the ONE SV as their phone of choice.

The fact that the ONE SV is so popular with the masses is down to the technology level that the handset flaunts. The HTC brand has always been famous for the fact that they brought high end technology and fused it with practicality to work for you in everyday life. The phone, naturally, boasts of a, mid-sized but by no way small, touch screen display, an efficient dual core processor and a rapid uplink to the internet through LTE.

Over all, the ONE SV seems a good enough phone, but this review will really test it to the fullest and then deliver its verdict.

What the box contains..

  • A wall charger, standard issue and complaint of all the regulations. Is configured to be used in the voltage settings of the United States, if bought from the country. If bought from a different country with different voltage configuration, you will require a voltage convertor. This can be bought separately and is widely available.
  • A USB cable of the micro breed which not only allows you to connect the phone with any USB supporting device, but it can even be charged through it. However the fact remains that the charging cycle of the phone is completed most efficiently when you use a genuine and authentic HTC charger.
  • Stereo head phones, wired, which are especially made of tangle free wire so that you do not spend hours untangling them when you take them out of your pocket or bags.
  • Safety guide is a very important document that not many people give much heed to. The guide shows how you can operate the phone safely. This does not only mean how you can prolong the life of your handset, but also contains important measures through which you can use the phone safely as well.
  • The warranty statement is also a very important document that needs to be stored in a safe secure place. The statement allows you to claim free maintenance or replacement if it encounters a technical problem before a stipulated time period.

Beneath the packaging

The HTC ONE SV packaging is also one of a kind, by using all eco friendly material while manufacturing the packaging components; we see that the company is actively trying to give back to the world. However one can be forgiven to forget what a splendour the packaging is because when the unearth the actual handset, they are left quite perplexed. The aesthetically designed ONE SV is captivatingly beautiful. With the elegant curves and sleek design of the handset, it is not a rarity that people who see it for the first time are lost for words for a minute or two.

The most important factor behind the good look of the handset is that it is, predominantly, built out of plastic. Now plastic and good looking handsets are not two words that you use very often in the same sentence. However the way the company has crafted the handset even out of plastic, which normally is considered to be a very cheap raw material, is testament to the prowess of HTC. At only 9.2 millimetre thick, the phone can easily be slotted into the practically designed category as we see that the margin of error with thickness of handsets is very minute, with both too thin and too thick handsets been recorded as flops on the market.

While the weight of the handset, 122 grams, is not exactly heavy either for a set that sports a moderately large full touch screen display. It is the small things like these that count towards the acceptance and popularity of the phone. Sure most of the people buy the phone for its cutting edge technology and to join the ‘android’ club, but the real reason that they stick with their phones or the same brand is because they find the phone very practical to keep. This practicality is a direct result of the fact that the phone’s dimensions and its weight make it very easy to carry. No one wants to carry a larger than life phone in his pocket every day, they may buy it for its latest gadgetry but then again it can never become their everyday phone.

Another subtle addition to the design is the slight curved behind that the phone boasts. Now most of us think that it is for aesthetic purpose, the curve matches those displayed by the front end of the phone. However it is much more than just a beauty line, the curved surface is there so that it may nestle easily in your hand. Indeed a very small thing, but making a world of a difference.

The drawbacks

Even though the phone looks absolutely perfect when you take it out from the packaging, one thing slowly starts to grow on you. If you have not noticed it yet, we would like to turn your attention to the absolutely gruesome earpiece grill that HTC has gone for on the ONE SV really is an unexpected addition on the otherwise extremely elegant set.

The other thing that really irritates the end user of the phone is the screen lock button. The button is one of the most important ones that can be found on a touch screen phone and just because it is located on the top of the phone, away from all easily accessible areas, it means that the user has to strain himself and reach to press it every time he wants to lock the screen. Not only that, since the user is very uncomfortable while pressing it, the button also becomes sticky or unresponsive at times. This is not because of any technical problem but in fact because the user does not press the button properly and instead thinks that the button is malfunctioning.

Conclusion

We conclude that even though HTC have gotten it wrong in some key areas of the phone design, the HTC ONE SV is still one of the best phones that you can buy for that price range. The HTC tag ensures that the phone is trusted to last and the Android OS also ensures that the user interface is not hard to understand and unlike many other competitors of the OS, rarely crashes. The aesthetic brilliance of the handset design only gets it that far, the real reason that it is going strong in the market is because it promises to deliver and does not disappoint.
