Galaxy S7 Edge Hands On Review
The Galaxy S7 Edge is looking to be the frontrunner for the Samsung camp in 2016 and whilst the standard version will sell well, the Edge variant may just be the top selling Samsung device this year.
There are plenty of things about both the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and the standard S7 that are similar, but we think that the few things that are different are much more noticeable. We’ll be talking about the S7 Edge in our hands on review below.
Build design
The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge features the same sleek build design as the standard S7, although the device has curved edges on either side. We’ve always considered Samsung’s devices to be the less physically impressive Android smartphones available but ever since the Galaxy Edge series we have changed our minds.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge has one of the most beautiful designs we’ve ever laid our eyes on. To top it off, the build design of the S7 Edge has been crafted in a way that makes it incredibly comfortable to hold and it sits in your hands perfectly.
Display
Before we get into the Edge aspect, let’s talk about other display specs. The Galaxy S7 Edge has a 5.5 inch display with a superb 1440 x 2560 resolution.
The device uses super AMOLED technology on it’s display, which we consider to be one of the best, if not the best options for smartphone displays thanks to it’s great color reproduction and brightness range for both low light and high light viewing. The Galaxy S7 Edge also has a dual curve display which essentially means both sides of the display are slightly curved. These curves open up plenty of new responsibilities, which we’ll talk about below.
Software
The standard TouchWiz UX on the Galaxy S7 offers a highly streamlined experience that has been designed to be as easy to use as possible.
We cannot deny that the latest TouchWiz offering is one of the simplest to understand yet, but despite this all of the great TouchWiz features that have been created by Samsung over the years have still been hidden within the settings menu.
There are some areas where the user interface on the Galaxy S7 Edge differs from the standard S7. All of these features make use of the Edge’s dual curved display in some way or another.
The main feature of the Edge’s curves is to display information at a glance - notifications and incoming calls can be viewed on the curved section of the display from a distance. Unlike a normal display, you won’t have to stand over it directly to view certain information. Do you want to unlock your Samsung Galaxy S7 edge? Just check it out here!
There are also Edge apps which allow users to have quick access to certain features. owners of the S7 Edge can even create their own ‘macros’ - with the tap of a button on the curved section of the display, an app can be opened and a task can be performed.
For example, a selfie can be taken with one tap, forgoing the need to open the camera app, switch to the front facing camera and then press the capture button.
