Motorola DROID Turbo 2 Vs Samsung Galaxy S6
After a long hiatus, Motorola revived the Droid name for the Motorola DROID Turbo 2. We decided to put the Turbo 2 up against the ultimate champion in the Android scene, the Samsung Galaxy S6, to see just how well the Droid Turbo 2 fairs. We aren’t expecting the Turbo 2 to come out on top, but we’d love to see what kind of results do come out of this.
Build Quality
The Droid Turbo 2 released near the end of 2015 so Motorola has had a chance to pick out the right parts and finetune their design.
Unfortunately for the Turbo 2, Samsung has almost perfected their flagship build quality and, alongside the Edge, the Samsung Galaxy S6 has gained a lot of appreciation for it’s build design alone.
Admittedly, the Motorola lineup may never look as pretty as the Samsung Galaxy S6, but it’s clear that Motorola, now owned by Lenovo, has gone for a more utility-based approach as opposed to appearance.
Whilst you’re offered a bit of customization via Moto Maker, the Droid Turbo 2 is quite a bland device on the physical design front. However, one aspect makes the Turbo 2 stand out. If you need to unlock your Samsung Galaxy S6 just visit here!
With it’s Shattershield display and resilient build , the Turbo 2 is capable of putting up with more damage than most other smartphones. If you want tough over pretty, go for the Droid 2, but if you’re more for looks, the Galaxy S6 is clearly the best choice.
Display
At a quick glance at the specs, everything seems pretty comparable in the display department. Firstly, the Droid Turbo 2 does have a larger display at 5.4 inches, whilst the Galaxy S6 has 5.1 inches.
When it comes to displays of this size on a smartphone, the difference between the two smartphones mentioned here is really just down to preference. Both devices have quad HD displays, although the Samsung uses Super AMOLED technology whilst the Turbo 2 uses standard AMOLED.
The results? Samsung’s display is remarkably brighter, it’s color accuracy is much more on point and it has a much warmer color temperature, which in most people’s eyes is an added plus. If you do need to unlock your Motorola droid turbo just click here!
Hardware
Motorola had the extra half year to prepare the Droid Turbo 2 so there’s no excuse for their smartphone to be lacking in the hardware department. Despite the higher price, the only thing you’re paying more for in the Droid Turbo 2 is the larger, more durable display.
In the hardware department, Samsung wins it out in benchmarks, even when it’s running TouchWiz. The Samsung Galaxy S6 uses the Exynos 7420 Octa with 3GB of RAM whilst the Motorola Droid Turbo 2 uses the Snapdragon 810 quad core with 3GB of RAM. Performance differences are very small but the Galaxy S6 does perform slightly better in all aspects.
There are two areas that may make the Droid Turbo 2 a better option - the larger 3,760mAh battery versus Samsung’s 2,550mAh battery and the included microSD card slot for expandable storage.
Software
Simply put, do you prefer stock Android or a more customized, feature packed TouchWiz UX? Motorola uses stock Lollipop but Samsung has it’s own overlay that the company has worked on for years. Obviously stock Android is a lot more lightweight and it works exactly as described.
Sometimes TouchWiz can be a bit more complicated than it needs to be, but the additional features are a nice added touch, although to be honest they aren’t particularly that necessary. Once again, the utility versus appearance argument sparks up again in the software department.
Summary
So there we have it. With a higher price tag, it’s hard to justify the purchase of the Motorola Droid Turbo 2. However, if you’re looking for a large screen device with stock Android, a large battery life, microSD card support and a durable design, the Droid Turbo 2 may be a potential choice.
If you don’t fit this exact audience portfolio Motorola has set up for themselves, you’ll most likely be better with the Galaxy S6.
