Blackberry Z10 Reaches 1 Million Sold Units in Q4 Alone

By admin | Published March 31st, 2013

For a short while in 2012, everyone thought RIM, now Blackberry, were going to crash and burn in their attempts to recapture some of the market now dominated by Apple, Android and Windows Phone.

However, Blackberry have managed to pull up out of their slowly declining profits and score a decent 1 million Blackberry 10 models sold in Q4 2012. In this fiscal quarter for Blackberry, they sold a total of 6 million handsets, of which 5 million were previous generation models, but it’s clear that the 1 million BB10 sales pushed in a whole lot more revenue as Blackberry’s profits went from $14 million in quarter 3 to a huge $94 million in quarter 4.

As Blackberry’s fiscal year ended March 2nd, the US and Canada’s launch sales aren’t included in their stated profits. As Blackberry are a Canadian firm, they may sell well in Canada thanks to being so close to home, but the US market paid little attention to Blackberry before, and may not this time round either. This doesn’t change the fact that Blackberry have definitely increased in profit by a huge margin this year thanks to BB 10, and CEO Thorsten Heins is optimistic for the future.

  • "We have implemented numerous changes at BlackBerry over the past year and those changes have resulted in the Company returning to profitability in the fourth quarter."

Blackberry is looking forward to this fiscal year and hope to keep improving their profits by greater margins each quarter.
