5 Things that Disappointed us in the New Samsung Galaxy S5
After all the rumors and high expectations that circulated before the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S5, the revealing of the new gadget at the Mobile World Congress in Spain caused quite a lot of stir and disappointment to many.
Of course that many of the rumors where unrealistic and we were all aware of that, but the new Galaxy S5 let us down in some of the realistic and desirable rumored specifications also. Here are the five things that the S5 let us down with:
1. Body casing and overall design
Everybody was hoping for a new Samsung Galaxy S5 with an improved body design and casing made of metal, not plastic as Samsung uses on all its series.
The iPhone and the HTC One have this improvement which certainly boosts their overall quality. Also, the screen display has no major difference from the S4, only an increase of 0.1 inches from a 5.0 to a 5.1 inch screen.
It seems that Samsung was not prepared to grow in these design aspects yet, but all hope is not lost, as we know that usually Samsung releases several variants for a model after its release, so we might expect an all-metal Galaxy S5 at some point this year.
If you need to unlock the previous model, the Samsung Galaxy S4G, you can get your code here.
2. Display and resolution
The rumors regarding the resolution of the new S5 were quite daring, expecting for the phone to have a WQHD 2560x1440 display, something which wasn’t shown at all in reality, the displayed gadget having only a Super AMOLED full HD display of 1920x1080p.
Quite a disappointment to have no upgrade in this respect and actually a smaller pixel density than the one of S4 (due to its slightly larger screen).
3. User experience
Something that users are really enthusiastic about when a new expected gadget comes out is an improvement in the UX, which the Galaxy S5 didn’t bring.
Samsung introduced their Magazine UX at the CES earlier this year, available only on the Galaxy Note Pro and Tab Pro at that point, which we were hoping to see also on the new S5. Unfortunately we didn’t get that, we only got a slightly better TouchWiz and the Android KitKat.
4. Processor
Maybe the most adequate choice for S5’s processor would have been the Snapdragon 805, a choice that was rumored and desired by experienced users.
Qualcomm would have also been an interesting choice, but we didn’t get any of that unfortunately, we only got a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 series processor, only a slight improvement from the Snapdragon 800 in the Galaxy S4.
5. That “spark”
A good marketing rule for any new flagship device would be to possess an incentive, a spark, a brilliant feature that would make users ditch the old version for the new one. The new Galaxy S5 doesn’t have that really appealing attribute yet, to our mind.
The water and dust protection is not enough and can be found also in the Galaxy S4 Active and the fingerprint sensor could be interesting but not attractive enough to make us buy it only for this reason.
We’re looking forward for future versions and improvements of The S5 and until then maybe there will be other companies that will bring that spark to their new flagship smartphones. We’ll keep an eye on Apple and HTC to see what’s coming. If you the Samsung Galaxy S3 and you don't feel the need to upgrade, you can choose to unlock your phone by following these instructions.
