The Galaxy S6 Edge takes the S6 and brings a number of improvements to the way the display works by curving the display on both sides. We already know the S6 is a beauty, but is it worth choosing the Edge instead? You can now Unlock The Galaxy S6 Edge and S6 here!
Build Design
The S6 and the S6 Edge both have a beautiful build design that combines the elements of glass and aluminum to create a premium feeling device. The back and the front of the S6 Edge is made out of Gorilla Glass 4, whilst the frame is built out of airplane-grade aluminum.
The extra attention to detail on the curved display really makes the S6 Edge look like one of the most gorgeous devices you’ll ever lay your eyes upon, and that’s really saying something, considering Samsung were renowned for making smartphones with pretty poor build quality.
Display
The Galaxy S6 Edge has an absolutely incredible 5.1 inch display that has a curved edge on either side. The curves adds a bit of extra functionality to the device, whilst also making the whole design feel more streamlined.
The display on the Edge has a massive 1440 x 2560 resolution, which lends it an absolutely mighty 576 ppi. Whilst this beauty of a screen is absolutely amazing, it’s the curved edges that get the most attention.
Like mentioned above, the curved screen not only has a functional purpose, but it fits into the design of the S6 Edge, and it really feels like this is the device people should consider to be Samsung’s front runner. The non-curved standard S6 is great, but the Edge is an upgrade from that.
UI and Apps
The new TouchWiz UX on Android 5.0 Lollipop for the Galaxy S6 Edge includes a beautifully crafted minimal design that makes it easy for new users to navigate. All of the apps and functions that aren’t needed in everyday life are tucked away out of sight, making it easy for users to focus on the functionality that truly matters to them.
It’s hard to say whether the UI or the build quality of the S6 Edge deserves the most commendation, both are excellent, and the compliment each other extremely well.
Hardware
The Galaxy S6 Edge features the same monstrous hardware as the standard S6. This means you’ll find an eight core 64 bit Exynos 7420 inside the Edge. The 7420 has enough power to outperform the Note 4, thanks to 1.5GHz Cortex-A53 and 2.1GHz Cortex-A57 double quad core array. The Mali-T760 GPU in the 7420 is also incredibly capable of performing anything the app store can throw at it.
Unfortunately the Edge has no microSD slot, and users can only opt for 32GB, 64GB and 128GB storage options. The battery on the edge is a 2,550mAh battery. Non removable and smaller than previous Samsung flagships, this is one of the major downgrades of the Edge.
Camera
The camera on the Edge is the same as the S6 - it has a 16 megapixel shooter with a F1.9 aperture capable of taking great shots in low light. The front facing cam shoots 5 megapixel images, and it’s definitely an upgrade from the S5.
Summary
The Edge is a step up from the S6 for sure, and all the good things about it could make you drool. The lack of microSD support and non-removable battery are the two things that keep the S6 Edge behind. Learn here how to unlock your Samsung phone!
