Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Vs. Galaxy Mega 6.3
It’s only right to want to pit the two newest Samsung phablets together and find out who is the better out of the two. It’s surprisingly quite a close fight, but one smartphone does come out on top. Which is better out of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3? Let’s find out. Unlock here your Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3!
Build Quality
When comparing two huge phones like the Note and the Galaxy Mega 6.3, we have to first consider that both these phones aren’t the most convenient. But, of course the Note 2 manages to feel more controllable thanks to not being quite as huge as the 6.3 inch Galaxy Mega.
Both phones have the same Galaxy style build, but the plastic feels a little different on each handset. The Galaxy Mega 6.3 looks just a tad nicer than the Note II, but choosing that over convenience is not a choice often made.
Screen Quality
The Note UU has a super AMOLED HD screen with a 265ppi, whilst the Mega 6.3 has a LCD panel with a 233ppi. Of course the Galaxy Mega has a bigger screen, and both are 720x1280 resolution, but the Note II looks slightly better, but with a few color variances between the two, and the added screen size of the Galaxy Mega 6.3, it comes down to preference here.
Software
The Galaxy Note II loses here thanks to being the more outdated of the two. The Galaxy Mega 6.3 is running the newest TouchWiz Nature UX 2.0 over Android 4.2, whilst the Galaxy Note 2 is running just Android 4.1.2.
There aren’t really enough software features to justify a purchase though, and the Galaxy Note 2 makes up for the lack of new features by adding apps that are compatible with the built-in S pen.
Hardware
When hearing that the Galaxy Mega 6.3 has only a 1.7GHz dual core processor and the Galaxy Note II has a quad core 1.6GHz processor, it’s easy to exclaim that the Note II beats the Galaxy Mega 6.3 in hardware performance.
Whilst that is true for the most part, the hardware performance between the two phablets is quite even. The Galaxy Mega 6.3 is using a Snapdragon 400 chip running on a Cortex-A15 design, whilst the 1.6GHz quad core Note II is running a lesser powered Samsung Exynos 4412 that is built with ARM’s Cortex-A9 architecture.
The Note II has 2GB RAM whilst the Mega 6.3 has a strange 1.5GB. Performance difference is noticeable in benchmarks, but in real life scenarios it’s hard to say the Mega 6.3 isn’t as good as the Note II.
Camera
The Galaxy Mega 6.3 camera has a better, more refined UI, but the performance for both the 8 Megapixel cameras on each phone is remarkably similar. The software features easily make the Galaxy Mega 6.3 a better choice here.
Call quality
It’s hard to say who has the worst call quality when comparing two Galaxy handsets, but it is safe to say that the Note II did have slightly more crisp sounds and did a better job at cancelling out background noise to make the other end of the call hear you better.
Battery
The Note II has a 3100 mAh battery, and the Mega 6.3 has a 3200 mAh battery. Hours for both phones are very similar, and that extra 100 mAh definitely helps with the extra screen size making both phones have a very similar battery life. It’s hard to say who the winner here is.
Conclusion
Unless you need a bigger screen, the Note II wins thanks to its better hardware, better call quality and slightly better screen quality. On top of this it’s cheaper than the Galaxy Mega 6.3.
The 6.3 does pack a punch though, but at that price, it’s hard to justify buying the Mega 6.3, even for the extra screen space. If you’re looking for a bigger screen for multimedia purposes, you’re probably better off going for a much, much cheaper Nexus 7.
