Samsung Galaxy Note II vs Samsung Galaxy S III
The Galaxy Note phone family has just become bigger with the addition of another member, Note II. It brings lot of improvements in its wake. There is a bigger and brighter display in a body that’s more compact, a very ergonomic S Pen stylus, and a tough quad-core CPU and 2GB RAM.
Both have first class call quality, though Note II’s is slightly better, due to a powerful earpiece and clear sound. Both behave nicely too, our voices come out crisply and loud with little audio distortions.
Note II remains a big hulk, but since the brand’s design is very recognizable, it seems you’re grasping a larger S III.
The second Note is meant not for all, it’s only for those persons who lift it up as a challenge. It has obvious extras, of course, which include vital, more battery life. It comes at little extra cost, though. If you’re the kind of person who sports slim jeans – don’t go for this one. It will be too bulky for you.
Thus, is Note II a solid enough packet to catch the attention if one is looking for a regular up-market Smartphone with a 4.8” screen as in Galaxy S II? We try to answer this question by making a comparison of the two.

Design
There is an element of truth in the belief that the Samsung Galaxy Note II is just a bigger Galaxy S III when one looks at its design tradition. Polycarbonate plastic is used in this app too. And, except for the size, the white varieties appear to be alike. But there are delicate dissimilarities, the Note II is appreciably less rounded at the edges, and the bezel below the display is much slimmer than the one in the Galaxy S III, which makes way for the big 5.5” screen.
The weight of the Note II is more by some 2 ounces but then the Galaxy S III is fairly light for a 4.8-incher.
Both these handsets are made on the new Samsung principle for slimmer but taller bodies which makes it easier to use it with one hand. The Galaxy S III is far more easy to use in your palm, though.
Display
Except for pixel density, the 5.5 inches and 16:9 HD Galaxy Note II screen is superior to the 4.8 on the S III in every class one can think of. The 3 subpixels for each pixel on the Note II translates into 30 per cent more than that on the Galaxy S III. The Note’s screen is a great deal more dazzling than the one on Galaxy III which has probably the dimmest Samsung AMOLED display.
The Note II, honestly, has the finest screen that Samsung has come out with. Viewed with AMOLED’s other assets -- high contrast and broad view angles along with its larger size it is far more attractive for both media utilization and browsing on the web.
Interface
Both sport the latest Samsung Nature UX with its Smart Stay, Pop Up Play and AllShare Cast flowing features. But the Jelly Bean in Note II is a decided advantage. Differences to be noted are the Note II’s Google Now personal butler, the Jelly Bean’s silky 60fps interface, the superb innate language identification of Google Voice and some extras which the Galaxy S III too will have very soon.
Thus the chief software differences remain in the S Pen appliances, like the S Note and the S Planner. The Note II’s stylus is a much improved one than the previous edition. Its grip is ergonomic and its latest technology enables you to quit faster and gives more even ink trace. An S Pen feature is Air View, with which you can previews emails, visual galleries and switch labels when you move over them. Note II has a 1.6 GHz Exynos 4412 CPU. The US variety sports a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 with LTE radio.
Both have 2GB RAM memory and the same (16GB) internal memory.

Cameras
There’s not much to choose from in the area of connectivity and when we talk of camera, both have LED flash. The pictures are detailed and very sharp, though Note II holds the edge here. Galaxy is ahead in the contrast. Sound capture is not too good in either handset. Music players have an equal level.
Multimedia
In the loudspeaker performance area, Note II is the clear winner. It has one of the loudest smartphone speakers and the sound is not flat. Even at high volumes it’s quite clean.
The video players in both sustain high-definition playback in any format. There is also the Pop Up Play utility, where one can disengage the video being played, and do something else. Lastly, there is the 3D Timeline vista of the pictures and the videos in order of time. Alternately there’s a coiled 3D view, which is said to be originally a Samsung Tizen OS.
