Samsung Galaxy S III Mini vs Galaxy S III - First Look
Samsung’s Galaxy S III Mini is plainly a case of an opportunity missed. Samsung formally showed the world its newest Galaxy handset a day after it proclaimed that it would introduce it formally the day before it actually did.
On the outside, the Galaxy S III Mini is adorned with the same nameplate as that of its big brother, Galaxy S III. It has the identical styling outside, and runs the identical TouchWiz UI shiny finish over its Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating structure. But the phones do not have much in common which is a disappointment, when you see what’s taking place inside the app.
Screen
The normal S III features a 4.8-inch screen while the S III Mini is equipped with one that is 4 inches. This could have truly been a good thing -- a screen that’s 4-inch is simpler to handle using one hand; a 4.8-inch screen is harder the handle – but for the fact that Samsung decided to do it the cheaper way. The screen resolution of the S III Mini is 800 x 480 pixels. That far lesser than the 1280 x 720 resolution on the original appliance.
Other measures that cut cost are glaring. The Samsung Galaxy S III has two variants, an international edition that has a quad-core Samsung Exynos workstation, and an American version that has a 1.5GHz twin-core Qualcomm Snapdragon mainframe. Both are extremely fast and they present some of the finest performances that can be found on a smartphone anywhere. While the S III can get downgraded to a 1GHz twin-core chipset, the manufacturer has not revealed where this chipset will come from.
Camera
The back camera on the S III is 5-megapixel which a year back would be seen as being out of date. And, the S III has a top-grade 8-megapixel camera. The front camera too is less than that, a VGA camera on the S III Mini and a 1.9-megapixel front one on the S III.
And forget about 4G capability, you will not get it on the S III Mini.
The S III Mini is of lesser size compared to the standard S III, though the 4-inch phone is certainly not a small apparatus. The name is like an underhanded poke at Samsung’s big rival, Apple, and its smash hit iPhone 5, the first phone from Apple with a 4-inch screen.
The iPhone 5 is an illustration of a 4-inch phone that has great cutting-edge technology. But the S III Mini is more like an impostor which fails in its bid to touch the fine Galaxy S brand that the company worked very hard to develop.
