Samsung Galaxy S4 vs Nokia Lumia 928

Samsung Galaxy S4 vs Nokia Lumia 928 ReviewWhich of the two flagships is the better? The awe-inspiring Galaxy S4? The smartphone that has been named the newly crowned king, or the underdog, the Lumia 928? A smartphone that offers a different experience that is just as comparable as the software-heavy Galaxy S4. Let’s try to find out

Build Quality

Which of the two smartphones holds the best build quality, and which one can be held in the hand with more comfort? Whilst the Galaxy S4 is lighter and thinner, it’s Galaxy design is something we’ve seen too much off in this lifetime and the more unique Lumia 928 definitely stands out.

On top of the difference in appearance, the Lumia 928 feels so much better to hold to, and the 928 feels like it could take quite a kick if it were to be dropped.
Both smartphones are nice, but the Nokia Lumia 928 is the smartphone that rings the more premium bell.

Screen Quality

We’ve seen in the last year that screen quality is something worth spending money on. A beautiful HD screen can’t be compared to a low-end pixelated display. In this case, the beautiful 5 inch 1080x1920 display on the Galaxy S4 stand out as the much more vibrant and clearer display.
On the other end of the battle, the 4.5 inch PureMotion HD+ 768x1280 AMOLED display isn’t bad, but it certainly doesn’t live up to the Galaxy S4. On top of this, the GS4 has built-in features to allow the display to be interacted with without even touching it.

Software

There is a huge amount to cover here- when covering two different operating systems at once there can only be one thing to say- try both and you’ll learn which one suits you best.

The Galaxy S4 is a handset that is bundle with a ton of features that at times can overwhelm the users and make navigation confusing and time-consuming. Whilst the Lumia 928 is a smartphone that has a much more adaptable and simplistic interface that lacks many of the software features that make the Galaxy S4 stand out so much.

Android, and, in particular Samsung’s TouchWiz Nature UX overlay seems to be pointed more at the power users- those that like to live with their smartphones, those who text, call, watch videos, play music, games and a ton more, whilst the Nokia Lumia 928 is a more subtle device that manages to handle social networking, texting and calling tasks with liquid smoothness.

Hardware

Whilst the Galaxy S4 has much better hardware on paper than the Lumia 928, it should be stated that when comparing across two different operating systems, it’s hard to distinguish between the two. Both experience buttery smooth performance, but the Galaxy S4 manages to hold more tasks at once, and despite the occasional stop and stall, the S4 manages to switch between tasks a lot faster.

Both handsets offer ample storage, but the Galaxy S4 manages to take a win by offering external microSD support and a removable battery.

Camera

This here is a difficulty one! Nokia is known for making killer cameras, and they really showed that with their 41 Megapixel PureView camera smartphone.
However, the Galaxy S4 manages to produce crisp shots just like the Lumia 928. The Lumia 928 manages to produce images of a tiny bit higher quality than the Galaxy S4 though- it is definitely a very difficult choice to make though, and although the Lumia wins slightly, this should not be a deciding factor when choosing between the two.

Battery

Which battery is better? That’s hard to say, but both smartphones manage to get a full day’s use of normal usage and as they are both power-heavy smartphones, they will require charging a lot. The winner here isn’t clear, and once again both offer the best battery performance you can currently get.

Call Quality

The Nokia Lumia 928 manages to take a win here by having much stronger input and output levels whilst retaining a level of clarity that just can’t be beat by the Galaxy S4. Background noises are a lot quieter on the Nokia Lumia 928 as well, despite the great quality of the S4.

Summary

Whilst the Lumia manages to win in a few areas, the Galaxy S4 takes a win in just as many territories- this is an incredibly hard decision to make and the choice will largely come down to the overall experience with the different operating systems instead of the hardware both smartphones pack. It’d be best to try both out and work out which works best for you.
