Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge vs Apple iPhone 6

By admin | Published May 30th, 2015

We often focus on battles that happen between Android handsets, but the real war has always been between the very best Apple has to offer and the very best Android manufacturers have to offer.

For this reason, there’s no better battle in the smartphone industry right now than the one between the Apple iPhone 6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.

Which of these devices comes out on top? Maybe there’s no straight forward winner, but we can still do our best to put each of them to the test.

Build Quality

There’s really quite a lot to say about both the Apple iPhone 6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge when it comes to build quality. A couple of years ago, there was no doubt that Apple could take the crown without much threat from Samsung.

At the time, Samsung’s flagships were mostly made out of bendy, squeaky plastic that just didn’t look good or feel good to hold. If you need unlock code for your Galaxy S6 just read the full detailed instructions here!

Fast forward to 2015 though and things are different. The Galaxy S6 has a beautifully sleek build quality that is only further enhanced with the curved edges found on the Edge variant.

It looks stylish, but most importantly it fits so perfectly into your hands.

The iPhone 6 on the other hand is just as sleek and magnificent, although in slightly different ways. The iPhone 6 is made primarily out of metal materials, whilst the S6 front and back is made out of glass and the frame is made from aluminum. It’s really too hard to make a fair judgement from build quality alone.

Display

Whilst the S6 Edge does have an included curved display, this is one easily overlooked feature that iPhone 6 users can look past. Look at other areas of the S6’s display though, and you’ll find that Samsung is the clear winner here. To Unlock your Iphone 6 just click here!

The iPhone 6 has a 4.7 inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 750 x 1334 pixels. This isn’t bad, but it’s 326ppi is laughable when compared to the 577ppi of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.

The Edge comes with a larger 5.1 inch Super AMOLED display, but it’s higher definition 1440 x 2560 resolution helps it to stay ahead of the iPhone’s display quality by a long shot.

When it comes to real world performance, there really isn’t that much to say - both displays look great. However, the curved edges and larger display clearly give the S6 the upper hand here.

OS and Interface

The argument for choosing iOS over TouchWiz has long been in Apple’s favor. No matter what Samsung would do, it’d just make the TouchWiz UX feel bloated and over complicated in comparison to iOS.

Things have changed now and the latest TouchWiz UX has the most minimal design it’s ever had. When compared to iOS 8, it’s like apples and oranges. And yes, Samsung is the orange.

There are a variety of features unique to both operating systems, and thanks to changes in Android 5.0 Lollipop, both operating systems run like butter.

It really comes down to personal preference and what you prefer in a mobile operating system. However, with that being said, it is clear that Android has a lot more potential for easy customization.

Hardware Performance

Here’s an important one. How does the iPhone compare against the most powerful Android smartphone currently on the market? It really is quite hard to compare the hardware performance of iOS and Android devices.

You certainly can’t use spec sheets as an accurate comparison that’s for sure.

Despite the Exynos 7420 octa core SoC sounding more impressive on paper, there are areas where the iPhone 6’s chip actually outperforms Samsung’s new in-house processor.

For example, the iPhone 6 has been tested to perform better in games than the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, and single core performance is better with the iPhone 6 too.

Multi-core performance is of course better on the Galaxy S6 and there are a few other areas where the S6 performs better too. Perhaps you’d make the most out of the small difference in mobile gaming performance on the iPhone 6, but besides from this, real world performance is going to be stutter free for both devices.

Camera

The camera on the Galaxy S6 Edge comes with a 16 megapixel shooter and OIS support. There’s no denying that the S6 Edge has a great camera, but the iPhone 6 still manages to beat Samsung in low light tests.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge seems to be a lot better for 4K video recording and daylight images, though.

Which of these cameras is better? It really depends on how you plan to use them. For smartphone cameras, they are both great.

Summary

There are a lot of areas where the iPhone 6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge are so different that it’s hard to compare them fairly. They are of course both great smartphones and they are the best their respective operating systems currently have to offer.

There are a few areas where the S6 Edge is hands down better, for example, in the display department, but the same can be said about the iPhone 6.

Mostly though, the winning smartphone will come down to your own personal preferences and bias towards your favorite operating system.
