Samsung Galaxy Note II vs HTC One X

Review: Samsung Galaxy Note II vs HTC One XThe Galaxy Note II has arrived. It has an even bigger -- 5.5 inches -- screen, better S Pen ergonomics, and a toughened quad-core CPU. It may not be the handset for all, but if you have been lugging Android phones that have large screens, it won’t be such a problem.

And looking at larger screens, the HTC One X at 4.7 inches is a lovely sight. It was the first to come in the shops with a quad-core CPU. Does the Note II fit you well, or is the HTC One X better for your pocket? Here we do an analysis of the two.

Design

It is true that the Note II is only a bigger version of the Galaxy S III as far as design goes. It has the polycarbonate plastic of yore, and the white varieties, in particular, look quite alike -- except for the size. But the design of the HTC One X is very distinct. It has a lovely and shapely polycarbonate one-body that fits nicely in the hand. With Note II you will be operating with two hands, but you can be one-handed with the One X, sometimes.

Display

As for display, Galaxy’s 5.5 inches 16:9 screen is the finest HD Super AMOLED that Samsung has brought out so far. The 4.7-inch screen that HTC One X has is a high-end LCD, and it has certain advantages. Firstly, it is shinier than the one on Note II and its pixel density is higher. Both phones have terrific viewing angles which are very clear. But the One X’s white is nearer to standard level than the Note II’s. The Note II beats all others in video playback, due to its huge screen dimensions.

Interface

Note II has an advantage over One X in the interface. That’s the Jelly Bean, which comes along with the Samsung’s latest Nature UX, its Smart Stay, Pop Up Play and AllShare Cast. One X’s handsets are fitted with the Sense UI, on the other hand. It has many other helpful features like eye-candy. Your personal likes will determine which one you will go for. HTC Sense looks a better choice in this department. But HTC One X lacks an important marketable feature that Note II does possess - an S Pen stylus that has its own silo. This adds numerous features and appliances to the combination.

Browsers

Browsers in both handsets are quick. The Nature UX on Note II is powered by a faster processor, but the performance is not very evident in both. The Galaxy has a 100 mb LTE Radio besides 21 mb HSPA+ connectivity. The One X (international version) is equipped with HSPA+ Radio, but offers an LTE/HSPA+ combo in the variety that’s on sale in America. The speeds are theoretical and are dependant on your network.

Cameras

Both handsets have many radios to choose from and the cameras in both are equipped with LED flashes. Their performances are very snappy too. Both use less than a second time to focus and click but still One X is faster. Shot modes are similar in both and there are lots of effects to choose from. The effects are richer on One X, and it is easier to handle than the Note II, which is cluttered.

Multimedia

When it comes to multimedia, the Sense music system on One X is slicker. It also has the Beats Audio, though that is not that advantageous really. But Note II is the winner in loudspeaker performance. It has one of the loudest speakers ever fitted on a smartphone. And it doesn’t sound flat, with clean outputs even at very high volume. The speaker on One X is wimpy if compared to the Note II.

Videos

Both videos in the apps support high definition playback. Both also have a fairly nice call quality; voices are clear in both ends of the earpiece. The Note II is stronger here, and has richer sound. HTC One X can give six hours video playback. With Note II, you most probably will get double that and more.

Conclusion

In conclusion one can say that the HTC One X holds some advantage over the Galaxy Note II, a brighter screen for example, and a lovely, compact one-body style that’s light. But in almost all other areas it is inferior to Samsung’s Colossus. If outward features are what you savor, you must be thinking how people come out in public holding a handset like the Note II. Samsung’s piece has a big and lovely HD Super AMOLED screen, also. Its much bigger battery will make sure that you have very good battery compared to the One X. Taking into account all the extra functions it has, Note II is a more inclusive package than the HTC One X – if the users are eager to go along with its  size.
